Wooden Wave Door

Beautiful door.

Created by Matharoo Associates for a diamond merchant in India. It's 17 feet tall, five and a half feet wide, and is made up of 40 sections of Burmese teak. The door uses a counterweight, 80 ball bearings and 160 pulleys to create the effect of reconfiguring into a sinusoidal curve when you push on any one section.

Burj skyscraper is really really really tall

This video shows the Burj skyscraper in Dubai. Looking down from the top makes the already tall skyscrapers at it's feet look insignificant. Insane at over half a mile high.

Papercraft 3D Head Costume

This guy Eric Testroete modeled his own head in 3ds Max and used a few other tools to finish it so it could be printed and glued together. See his website for instructions or his flickr page for photos.

It's not the most complicated thing to execute, but it sure has impact. Because the light is hitting the polygons in such a natural way, It looks like it's walking the line between physical reality and digital.

Genius!

Kate Perry vs Zooey Deschanel [look-a-likes]

I cannot tell these two apart for the life of me. If it weren't for a few photos that they appear together in, I would doubt that they are two different people.

Convert photos to a 3D bump map

Photo

Bump Map

This site turns sets of 2D images into 3D bump maps. To do this, you will need five to fifteen photos of your object that overlap at least 80 to 90 percent. Frames from a video could work well.

Odd land formation [Russia]

My friend Aaron Shinn of mine came across this Google satellite image. It looks like a glacial land slide. It's somewhere near Belovo in Russia.

Easier to pick up coins

Coins haven’t really changed their function or core design since their inception. For the most part, they’re all flat and round - two characteristics that make it difficult to pick up. This coin by designer Hyun Woo Kim has a beveled edge. Apparently it’s angled just enough for easy pick ups. Hey, anything to shave a few seconds off from bending over to pick a coin up is aces in my book.
